Smriti Mandhana added another landmark innings to her career during the Women’s Asia Cup, scoring 124 from 64 balls against Hong Kong, China on September 3.
The century was Mandhana’s second in T20 internationals and took her past former India captain Mithali Raj as the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket across formats.
Mandhana moved to 10,880 international runs, surpassing Raj’s 10,868. The knock also took her to 18 international centuries, moving her ahead of Meg Lanning for the most hundreds in women’s international cricket.
Those numbers matter because they reflect both longevity and range. Mandhana has remained a central figure for India across formats while also becoming one of the most aggressive opening batters in the modern game.
The timing of the hundred was equally useful for India. With the Asia Cup moving toward the knockout stage, Mandhana’s form gives the side a reliable way to control the powerplay and force opponents to change their bowling plans early.
