India have made a late change to two upcoming squads, with Yash Thakur replacing Harshit Rana for both the Afghanistan T20I series and the 2026 Asian Games.
According to the BCCI, Rana suffered a rectus femoris strain while bowling during a match simulation on September 7. He had been progressing through rehabilitation before the setback ruled him out of the two assignments.
Thakur, 27, made his T20I debut during India’s tour of Zimbabwe in July. He took four wickets in two matches and has built a strong domestic T20 record for Vidarbha.
His inclusion gives India another right-arm pace option alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh for the Afghanistan series.
The change is significant because India are trying to balance immediate results with workload management across a crowded September schedule. The Afghanistan series begins in Delhi on September 13, while the Asian Games follow later in the month.
