India have named a 15-player squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in Delhi, with Shreyas Iyer set to lead the side and Jasprit Bumrah included after being named subject to fitness clearance.
The series will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on September 13, 15 and 17. It is India’s first bilateral T20I assignment against Afghanistan since January 2024.
India’s group includes Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and the replacement seamer Yash Thakur.
The selection points to a familiar theme in India’s T20 planning: multiple wicketkeeping options, several spin combinations and batting depth through the all-rounders.
Bumrah’s inclusion gives the squad a world-class pace option, but his workload will be an obvious area of attention. India have a busy calendar ahead, and the selectors originally named him subject to fitness clearance.
